Crafting
Diablo 4 crafting in 2026 runs through five places: the Blacksmith (Tempering, Masterworking, Mythic caches), the Occultist (Aspects from the Codex of Power, Enchanting), the Jeweler (gems, Runes, Mythics with Resplendent Sparks), Lord of Hatred's Horadric Cube (add, remove or reroll affixes, raise rarity, upgrade Uniques to Mythic) and the Talisman, whose Seals hold Charms with set bonuses.
Diablo 4 crafting in 2026 runs through five places: the Blacksmith (Tempering, Masterworking and Mythic caches), the Occultist (Legendary Aspects from the Codex of Power, and Enchanting), the Jeweler (gems, Runes and Mythic Uniques made with Resplendent Sparks), the Horadric Cube, which Lord of Hatred added on Apr 28, 2026 to "add, remove, and reroll affixes", raise rarity and turn Uniques into Mythics, and the Talisman, where Seals hold Charms that give set bonuses (Blizzard, Apr 23, 2026). In this clip Blizzard presents the Cube, "a legendary tool for a legendary way to craft", over its crafting screen, "a heartfelt callback to the Cube in Diablo II." The Blacksmith, Occultist and Jeweler are in every copy of the game; the Cube and the Talisman need the expansion.

Item basics
Gear comes in Common, Magic, Rare, Legendary and Unique rarities, with Mythic as a quality any Unique can have since Season 14 (see Mythic Uniques). Season 4 (May 14, 2024) cut Legendaries to three affixes and Rares to two, and added Greater Affixes, "1.5x stronger" affixes on Ancestral Legendaries and Uniques with their own sound when they drop (Blizzard, Apr 30, 2024). Patch 2.0 (October 2024) removed Sacred items; Ancestral items now drop from Torment I at item power 800 with at least one Greater Affix (Blizzard, Aug 29, 2024). Since Lord of Hatred, Common, Magic and Rare items in Torment can be Ancestral too, because the Cube uses them as crafting bases.
Codex of Power and the Occultist
Since Season 4, salvaging a Legendary stores its power in the Codex of Power as an Aspect you can reuse forever, imprinting it onto other gear at the Occultist and upgrading it by salvaging better rolls. The Occultist also enchants: you can reroll one affix, and since Season 14 that includes Uniques, Mythic Uniques and Iconic Mythics (Blizzard, Jun 23, 2026). With Lord of Hatred, over 200 Aspects were overhauled and many old Passive skills moved into Aspects and Uniques.
Tempering and Masterworking
Both came with Season 4. Tempering lets the Blacksmith add an affix from a learned Tempering Manual (Weapons, Offensive, Defensive, Mobility, Utility, Resource); Masterworking spends materials from The Pit to raise an item's power step by step. Season 11 reworked both, as its trailer's cards announce in this clip ("Perfect your gear with a reworked item journey"), before "Bless your weapons and armor with Sanctification" over a Heavenly Forge. Since then you choose the Tempering affix you want instead of getting one at random, an item holds one Tempered affix, charges restore without limit, and Tempers on Ancestral items can become Greater Affixes; Masterworking raises an item's Quality on a set path and ends with a Capstone Bonus that turns an affix into a Greater Affix (Blizzard, Dec 3, 2025). Sanctification, from that season, added a last blessing that made the item unmodifiable. Since Lord of Hatred, Uniques and Mythics can be Tempered too.
Runewords and gems
Vessel of Hatred brought Runewords: put a Rune of Ritual, which builds up Offering, and a Rune of Invocation, which spends it, into a two-socket item; the expansion launched with 17 Ritual and 28 Invocation Runes, and Runes can be traded (Blizzard, Aug 29, 2024). Gems stopped dropping in patch 1.2.0 and are crafted at the Jeweler from Gem Fragments. Since patch 3.0.1 (Apr 27, 2026) a gem in a weapon gives multiplicative damage by element: Amethyst Shadow, Diamond all damage, Emerald Poison, Ruby Fire and Holy, Sapphire Cold, Skull Physical, Topaz Lightning (Blizzard, Apr 2026). Two higher tiers, Horadric and Flawless Horadric, are made with the Cube's Amalgamation recipe. Elixirs come from the Alchemist.
The Horadric Cube
You find the Cube during the Lord of Hatred campaign and use it in Temis. Blizzard's list of what it does: "add, remove, and reroll affixes, reroll items of the same quality, upgrade all types of items, craft Unique Charms, and transmute items", create gems beyond the Jeweler, reroll Set Charms, add Sanctification-like affixes "with even more options and a chance for less risk", and make specific Legendary Runes for Runewords and Mythic crafting. Its materials come from Elite monsters, Cube Spoils from War Plans, Undercity Tributes and Whisper Caches, and "there are also Secret Recipes to discover" (Blizzard, Apr 23, 2026). Legacy items from before the expansion cannot go in it.
IGN's reviewer describes the Cube in this clip as a device "that does everything from turning common items into uniques" to adding one more stat boost to your best Masterworked gear, at the cost of locking that item out of all future changes (an Unmodifiable item), and says that after hours with it they had "barely scratched the surface".
Season 15 added two recipes, explained by the designers in this clip: Horadric Reroll fully randomizes the base affixes of a Legendary or better Charm or Seal without touching set bonuses or Unique powers, and Affix Value Reroll rerolls the base affixes of equipment while keeping Greater Affixes, Enchants, Tempers and Transfigurations (Blizzard, Sep 12, 2026). The same season's "Upgrade Direct Item to Mythic" recipe turns a finished Unique into a Mythic with everything kept.
The Talisman and Charms
The Talisman is Lord of Hatred's other item system: a Seal unlocks up to six Charm slots ("the more powerful the Seal, the greater the number of affixes and the more Charm slots"), Charms of the same kind stack, and Set Charms give bonuses for partial or full sets, class-specific or for all classes. IGN's reviewer calls it in this clip "a clever way of offering set bonuses that are usually found on specific armor sets", except that you can wear any armor you want. Since patch 3.1 you can equip up to three Unique Charms, and since Season 15 a Unique Charm has a small chance to drop as a Mythic Charm. Set names include Horazon's Chains, Balazan's Bite, Bliss of the Multitude and Storm Shepherd's Call.
The Loot Filter
The Loot Filter came with patch 3.0 for every player, expansion or not. "You've been asking for this since day one," Blizzard says in this clip over the filter's screen. Open it under Options, Gameplay; a filter holds 1 to 25 rules, each rule can Hide, Recolor or Show, and there are 10 conditions: Item Power Range, Item Rarity Match, Item Properties (Ancestral), Codex Upgrade Check, Greater Affix Check, Item Type Match, Has Required Affixes, Has Optional Affixes, Is Specific Unique and Talisman Set Bonus. Rules apply from the top down, only one filter runs at a time, a hotkey toggles it, and filters export and import as text codes (Blizzard, Apr 23, 2026). It filters gear only, not manuals, reagents, gems or currency.
Trading
Blizzard Support's trading page, as far as it could be read, says common, magic and unenchanted rare items, gold, gems and elixirs can be traded, while Legendaries, Uniques and Aspects are "Account Bound" (Blizzard Support, read Oct 20, 2026); this wording may be dated. Runes trade, fish trade, and non-Mythic Charms and Seals have been tradeable since patch 3.0.2 (May 13, 2026). Some Lord of Hatred items cannot go to players without the expansion. Solo Self Found characters cannot trade at all.
Frequently asked questions

Finish the part of Diablo 4's Lord of Hatred campaign where you find the Horadric Cube, then use it in Temis: pick a recipe, add the item and the materials, and the Cube adds, removes or rerolls affixes, raises rarity, upgrades a Unique to Mythic or crafts Charms.
What is Masterworking in Diablo 4? Masterworking is Diablo 4's Blacksmith upgrade that spends materials from the Pit to raise an item's Quality, which boosts its base stats and affixes, ending with a Capstone Bonus that turns one affix into a Greater Affix (as reworked in Season 11).
What is Tempering in Diablo 4? Tempering is Diablo 4's Blacksmith service that adds one chosen affix from a Tempering Manual to an item; since Season 11 the affix is no longer random.

How do you make a loot filter in Diablo 4? In Diablo 4 open Options, Gameplay, Loot Filter, click New Filter, then add up to 25 rules, each with conditions such as rarity, Greater Affixes or a specific Unique, set to Hide, Recolor or Show.
What are Greater Affixes in Diablo 4? Greater Affixes are Diablo 4 affixes 1.5 times stronger than normal, found on Ancestral items since Season 4 (May 14, 2024).
Do I need Lord of Hatred for the Horadric Cube and Talisman? Yes: the Horadric Cube and the Talisman come with Diablo 4's Lord of Hatred expansion, while the Loot Filter and the Blacksmith, Occultist and Jeweler are free for every player.
