Rogue
The Rogue is one of Diablo 4's five base-game classes, an agile fighter who uses bows and crossbows (Marksman skills) or blades (Cutthroat skills), imbues her weapons with shadow, poison or cold, and sets traps. She spends Energy, and her class mechanic is a Specialization: Combo Points, Inner Sight or Preparation.
The Rogue is one of the five classes of Diablo 4's base game (Jun 6, 2023), in Blizzard's words "an adaptable, agile warrior who can specialize in ranged or close quarters combat", who "can best any foe with her imbued weapons, perform powerful combo attacks, and can augment her arsenal with deadly poisons and shadow magic". She spends Energy, and her class mechanic is a Specialization. Until the Amazon arrives in the first half of 2027, the Rogue is Diablo 4's only bow class: at BlizzCon's "What's Next" panel on Sep 13, 2026, the Amazon's designers set the two apart, calling the Rogue "still a master of the bow" with a "much more scrappy play style", in and out of stealth, raining arrows that "land where they land", while the Amazon's Ranger will be "the ultimate sniper". The other classes are compared on Classes.

Play style
The Rogue fights at range, up close, or both. Her skills are tagged Marksman (bow and crossbow skills such as Barrage, Penetrating Shot, Rapid Fire and Forceful Arrow) or Cutthroat (blade skills such as Twisting Blades, Flurry, Puncture, Blade Shift and Heartseeker), and she moves with skills like Dash and Shadow Step. Imbuements charge her next attacks with Shadow, Poison or Cold; Poison Trap, Caltrops and Smoke Grenade control the field. PC Gamer wrote in March 2023 that Rogues "may look simple" but "thrive on having distinct goals when it comes to combat", knowing "exactly where and how to strike enemies to deal the most damage". Blizzard's Paragon nodes still reward mixing the two styles: since Season 15, Tricks of the Trade makes enemies damaged by her Marksman, Cutthroat, Mobility or Trap skills take 20% more damage from each.
Specializations
The Rogue's class mechanic lets her choose one Specialization at a time. PC Gamer described the first two from the 2023 beta:
- Combo Points (level 15): Basic skills generate Combo Points, and certain skills consume them for extra effects. Barrage with Combo Points fires more arrows for more damage; Twisting Blades with Combo Points also grants movement speed.
- Inner Sight (level 20): attacking marked enemies fills the Inner Sight gauge, and a full gauge gives unlimited Energy for 4 seconds.
- Preparation: spending Energy reduces the cooldown of the Rogue's Ultimate, which Blizzard's launch-era notes raised from 4 to 5 seconds per trigger.
Ultimates and Dance of Knives
The Rogue's Ultimates are Death Trap, Rain of Arrows and Shadow Clone. Vessel of Hatred's 2.0 update (Oct 2024) gave every class one new skill; the Rogue's was Dance of Knives, a Cutthroat Agility skill with 6 charges that she channels while moving faster, gaining Dodge chance and throwing knives at nearby enemies.
The Lord of Hatred skill tree
Blizzard's Lord of Hatred overview of Feb 11, 2026 promised "we're not leaving any class behind": alongside the Paladin and the Warlock, every class got the skill tree rework, free for all players, with more than 40 reworked choices and over 80 additional options each. Passive nodes left the tree, and each active skill got three branches, the third holding Bonus Skill Variants for expansion owners. Rogue variants named in Blizzard's notes include Barrage's "Multishot", Dash's Shadow Play (renamed Echo in Season 15), Smoke Grenade's Shade Grenade, Flurry's Encircling Blades and Transporter.
Blizzard Watch (Apr 27, 2026) told players disappointed that Lord of Hatred's second class was not the Amazon to "play Rogue", and to look at Barrage's Multishot variant: on top of a damage boost, Barrage fires two additional arrows, and all its arrows travel faster and pierce two more enemies; with the Cast Speed upgrade from one of Barrage's general branches, "the arrows just won't stop".
Items and Talismans
Rogue Uniques named in Blizzard's Season 15 notes include Pitfighter's Gull, Condemnation (which now lets the Rogue generate as many Combo Points as she spends for 1.5 seconds) and the Deathmask of Nirmitruq, which now gives Flurry its Transporter variant for free. Of the legacy Uniques, the Rogue can use In-Geom alongside the four legacy Uniques for every class. Lord of Hatred's Talisman (see Crafting) brought Rogue sets such as Nilfur's Narrow Eye (Marksman range), Spellbound Steel (Imbuements) and Applied Alchemy. Her Paragon boards hold rare nodes such as Surgical and Focused, which Season 15 changed to boost all damage and damage to Elites.
Season of Hell's Legacy changes
"Rogues have a decent variety of builds available to them", Blizzard's Season 15 notes (Sep 12, 2026) say, "but specific Cutthroat builds could use more power and quality changes." Flurry's Encircling Blades variant went from 294% to 343% weapon damage, Spellbound Steel's Lucky Hit chance rose from 9% to 50% with 60% more Imbued skill damage, the Grenadier's and Artful Initiative Aspects gained damage, and the offensive Temper "Damage per Combo Point Spent" rose from 3 to 4.5% to 10 to 15%.
Builds
Vi.ki does not rank builds. Builds named by reputable, dated sources are collected on Builds; for the Rogue, Blizzard Watch's Lord of Hatred pick was Barrage with the Multishot variant (Apr 27, 2026), and Blizzard's Season 15 notes aimed their buffs at Cutthroat builds. The Leveling Guide covers reaching level 70.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Rogue good for beginners in Diablo 4? The Rogue rewards learning: she is fast and flexible but less sturdy than a Barbarian, and she is strongest when players pick a style (bow or blades) and a Specialization that suits it. A ranged Rogue can stay away from danger while learning the game.
What is the Rogue's resource in Diablo 4? Energy. The Inner Sight Specialization can make it unlimited for 4 seconds when its gauge is full.
What is the Rogue's class mechanic in Diablo 4? Specializations: Combo Points (from level 15), Inner Sight (from level 20) and Preparation, one active at a time.
What are the Rogue's Ultimates in Diablo 4? Death Trap, Rain of Arrows and Shadow Clone.
Is the Rogue a bow class in Diablo 4? She can be. Marksman skills use bows and crossbows and Cutthroat skills use blades, and many builds mix both. The Amazon, due in the first half of 2027, will be Diablo 4's second bow class.
What is the best Rogue build in Diablo 4? Blizzard does not name one. Blizzard Watch recommended Barrage's Multishot variant at Lord of Hatred's launch (Apr 27, 2026), and Blizzard's Season of Hell's Legacy notes buffed Cutthroat builds.
Who voices the Rogue in Diablo 4? Anna Koval voices the female Rogue and Andres Williams the male, according to PCGamesN's cast list (Jun 6, 2023).

Leveling GuideDiablo 4's level cap is 70 for every player since Lord of Hatred's launch on Apr 27, 2026, up from 60 with Vessel of Hatred and 50 at launch; after 70, Paragon points keep a character growing. The fastest experience comes from higher difficulties, whose Torment bonuses reach 1,700% at Torment XII, and from War Plans and the Pit.
