Diablo 4 runs on PC (Battle.net and Steam), PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and, since Sep 15, 2026, Nintendo Switch 2, with cross-play and cross-progression between all of them through a Battle.net account. Consoles have two-player couch co-op, and the game is always online; it is not on Mac, the original Switch or phones.

The Switch 2 version was the last to arrive: at the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony on Sep 12, 2026, Joe Shely announced that the Age of Hatred Collection, the base game with both expansions, was coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on Sep 15 "alongside the Season of Hell's Legacy", with a demo on the show floor that day. Diablo 4 is not on Mac, the original Nintendo Switch, iOS or Android; Blizzard's Diablo for phones is the separate game Diablo Immortal. The five launch platforms were Windows PC on Battle.net, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, all with cross-play and cross-progression from day one (Blizzard). Steam followed on Oct 17, 2023 (Blizzard). Every date is on Release History.

Nintendo Switch 2

The Switch 2 release is part of how Blizzard keeps Diablo 4 going while Diablo 5 is made: asked by IGN at BlizzCon what Diablo 5 can do that Diablo 4 cannot, the team first stressed that Diablo 4 is fully supported, naming the Amazon, Season of Hell's Legacy and the Switch 2 version. The Switch 2 product is the Diablo 4: Age of Hatred Collection, with the base game, Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred (Blizzard). Blizzard's Switch 2 FAQ gives two modes (Blizzard forums):

Handheld Docked
Quality Mode 30 fps at 1080p 30 fps at 1440p
Performance Mode 40 fps at 1080p 40 fps at 1080p (needs a 120Hz or faster display)

The same FAQ says cross-play on Switch 2 needs an active Nintendo Switch Online membership while cross-progression does not, that the game still needs an internet connection ("Diablo IV is an online game"), and that a USB mouse and keyboard work but the Joy-Con 2 mouse function does not. Critics gave the Switch 2 collection 83 on Metacritic. Reports that the boxed version holds only a download code come from a leak and are unconfirmed by Blizzard or Nintendo.

PlayStation

The PlayStation 5 version is marked "PS5 Pro Enhanced" on PlayStation's page. The PlayStation 4 version has had the base game and seasons since launch. Whether Lord of Hatred supports PS4 is unclear: Xbox Wire's announcement lists "Battle.net, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Steam" (Xbox Wire), while PlayStation's store lists the Lord of Hatred editions as add-ons "for PS4 and PS5" (PlayStation). Blizzard has not settled it in the sources read, as of Oct 20, 2026, so PS4 owners should check the store before buying.

Xbox and Game Pass

Diablo 4 runs on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, and the Xbox store lists Lord of Hatred for both (Microsoft Store). The base game has been on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass and Game Pass for Console since Mar 28, 2024; the expansions are bought separately. See Game Pass.

PC, Steam Deck and cloud

On PC, Diablo 4 is Windows only and sold through Battle.net and Steam; the Steam version links to a Battle.net account. Hardware needs are on PC Requirements. Before the Steam launch, Blizzard's Adam Fletcher said Diablo 4 would be Steam Deck Verified from day one (Shacknews); Valve's current Deck rating was not read for this page. NVIDIA's GeForce NOW has streamed the Battle.net version since Feb 29, 2024 (NVIDIA). Public test realms (PTRs) are on Battle.net for PC only; Steam and console players cannot join them.

Cross-play and cross-progression

Every version of Diablo 4 plays together, and your characters follow your Battle.net account from one platform to another. Blizzard promised both when it dated the game in Jun 2022 (Blizzard). Expansions are the exception to "buy once": Lord of Hatred is bought once per platform, but progress is shared (Blizzard). Cross-play can be turned off, but leaderboard rewards in the Artificer's Tower go only to players with Crossplay on (Blizzard).

Couch co-op and parties

Diablo 4 is built for playing together: parties of up to four, a Party Finder since Vessel of Hatred, clans, and on consoles two-player couch co-op on one screen. Kotaku reports couch co-op is for two players and consoles only, not PC (Kotaku); Blizzard's site advertises it as "couch co-op on Xbox". Group play has rough edges: IGN's Lord of Hatred review calls the way War Plans handle a party "a pretty fatal flaw", because each friend has their own randomized playlist and yours only advances when the party's next activity happens to match it (War Plans). Solo Self Found mode, since Season 14, is the opposite: no party and no trading, on the Seasonal Realm only.

Keyboard and mouse on console

Consoles gained mouse and keyboard support with Season 9, Sins of the Horadrim, in Jul 2025, after Blizzard put "the frequently requested feature" on its 2025 roadmap (Blizzard; Blizzard). On PC, controllers work fully, including DualShock and DualSense (Steam).

Always online

Diablo 4 needs a constant internet connection on every platform, even for solo play; there is no offline mode (Steam). That drew criticism at launch and again for the Switch 2 version, where a handheld cannot be played without a connection.
