Game Pass
The Diablo 4 base game has been on Xbox Game Pass (Ultimate, PC Game Pass and Game Pass for Console) since Mar 28, 2024, the first Battle.net game on the service. The expansions Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred are not shown as included and are bought separately (Xbox store, read Oct 20, 2026).
The Diablo 4 base game has been on Xbox Game Pass since Mar 28, 2024, in Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass and Game Pass for Console, and it was the first Battle.net game ever added to the service; the expansions, Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred, are not shown as included and have to be bought separately (Xbox store, read Oct 20, 2026). A Game Pass member still gets a large share of the game: the campaign, every season, the five base classes, and the free parts of each expansion's patch. When Lord of Hatred was presented, Blizzard said the reworked skill trees come to every class and "will be available to all players regardless of Lord of Hatred ownership", with more than 40 reworked choices and over 80 new options for each class. What the full game holds is on Diablo 4.

What Game Pass includes
Microsoft, which has owned Blizzard since it completed its purchase of Activision Blizzard on Oct 13, 2023, announced on Feb 15, 2024 that Diablo 4 would join Game Pass (The Verge). It arrived on Mar 28, 2024, the first game from Blizzard's Battle.net library on the service (Inven Global). What came was the base game, the one sold alone as the $49.99 Standard Edition: the Lilith campaign, the Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Rogue and Sorcerer, and the seasons, each of which is free to play on the Seasonal Realm.
| On Game Pass? | |
|---|---|
| Diablo 4 base game | Yes (Ultimate, PC Game Pass, Game Pass for Console) |
| Seasons and patches | Yes, free for every owner |
| Vessel of Hatred | No, not shown as included |
| Lord of Hatred | No, not shown as included |

Are the expansions on Game Pass?
No, as far as the stores show. The Xbox store's page for Lord of Hatred lists Game Pass only under "Works with", for the base game it needs, and not as included (Microsoft Store). Vessel of Hatred was not on Game Pass at launch either (Blizzard). What you would pay for is substantial: IGN's review of Lord of Hatred credits it with "a tight, satisfying campaign, two new classes" and an endgame so loaded with things to do that the reviewer "occasionally forgot some of the systems even existed". It costs $39.99 for the Standard Edition and includes Vessel of Hatred; prices for every edition are on Price and Editions. Whether either expansion was ever part of Game Pass for a time is not known from the sources read, as of Oct 20, 2026.
The Vessel of Hatred Game Pass month
Instead of putting Vessel of Hatred on Game Pass, Blizzard gave one month of Game Pass Ultimate to Xbox and Battle.net players who pre-purchased its Deluxe Edition, Ultimate Edition or Expansion Bundle in 2024 (Blizzard; ONE Esports).
How to play Diablo 4 on PC Game Pass
On PC, Diablo 4 from Game Pass still runs on Blizzard's account system: PC Game Pass needs a linked Battle.net account (Inven Global). The same account is how cross-play and cross-progression work, and PC players on Game Pass can join Blizzard's public test realms like other Battle.net players. Hardware needs are on PC Requirements.
Game Pass rewards in Season of Hell's Legacy
The current season adds a reason to link accounts. Season of Hell's Legacy, Diablo 4's 15th season, was announced at the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony to launch on Tuesday, Sep 15, 2026, with Deckard Cain returning, and Blizzard's season post says Game Pass members who link Battle.net get "over 50 total cosmetics across all classes" in it. The season itself is on Season of Hell's Legacy.
If you buy the game later
Progress belongs to your Battle.net account, not to Game Pass. If you buy Diablo 4 or an expansion on any platform later, the characters you made on Game Pass are the same characters, and they follow you across PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch 2 through cross-progression (Platforms and Crossplay). Lord of Hatred is bought once per platform, but progress is shared across them (Blizzard).
