Endgame

Diablo 4's endgame in 2026 is built around War Plans in Temis, which chain up to five runs of the Pit, Infernal Hordes, Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, Lair Bosses and the Kurast Undercity, with Echoing Hatred, Torment I to XII and each season's own activities on top. War Plans and Echoing Hatred need Lord of Hatred; the activities themselves and the Torment levels are free for every owner of the base game.

Diablo 4's endgame in 2026 is built around War Plans: at the Command Table in Temis you chain up to five activities from six modes (the Pit, Infernal Hordes, Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, Lair Bosses and the Kurast Undercity), then collect from the War Chest, while Echoing Hatred, twelve Torment levels and each season's own activities sit on top. It begins once the campaign is done and your character nears the level cap of 70: IGN's reviewer of Lord of Hatred describes it in this clip as a loop of upgrade systems, the materials they need and the hunt for gear with the right stats, and calls the expansion's version the game's "most dense, meticulously customizable version yet". The activities themselves are older than the expansion and open to every owner of the base game; War Plans and Echoing Hatred are the parts that need Lord of Hatred.

Temis and where the endgame starts

Temis, the capital of Skovos, is the endgame's home: Blizzard says it built the city as "the ideal endgame city", and once the campaign ends it holds the Command Table for War Plans, the Sightless Eye for Echoing Hatred, the Horadric Cube and, since Lord of Hatred, an Artificer's Obelisk and Stash for the Pit and the Tower. A character can reach it three ways: by playing the campaigns, by starting at Lord of Hatred's campaign, or by choosing "Story Complete: Endgame" at character creation, which opens once any character has finished Lord of Hatred's campaign; every older character can then skip the campaign too (Blizzard, Apr 23, 2026). If you are still leveling, the Leveling Guide covers the road to 70.

War Plans

War Plans are the backbone of the 2026 endgame. Blizzard's developers say in this clip why they built them: after the campaign "the real journey begins" for many players, and "there's nothing worse than feeling lost after the credits roll". At the Command Table you pick a chain of activities and the rewards you want; War Plans teleport you from one to the next and make a sigil on the fly if you lack one, and finishing them all pays out at the War Chest (Blizzard, Apr 23, 2026). Each activity has its own tree of modifiers, such as a random Butcher in Pit runs or Duriel in place of the Blood Maiden in Helltides. Since Season of Hell's Legacy (Sep 15, 2026), War Plans progress is shared by your characters that match in realm, Hardcore and Solo Self Found state.

The activities War Plans chain

  • The Pit (the Pit of the Artificers): a timed, tiered dungeon opened with Runeshards. Kill enough monsters to summon its boss before the 10-minute timer runs out; it pays Masterworking materials and upgrade attempts for Paragon Glyphs, and its tiers decide your Torment level.
  • Infernal Hordes: a wave mode opened with an Infernal Compass. Survive 60-second waves, take Infernal Offers (a boon with a bane), collect Burning Aether, beat the Fell Council and spend the Aether on the Spoils of Hell.
  • Helltide: a region-wide event where monsters drop Cinders for Helltide chests; filling the Threat meter brings a Hellborne, and three Baneful Hearts at the Accursed Ritual summon the Blood Maiden.
  • Nightmare Dungeons: dungeons made harder by a Nightmare Sigil's modifiers; an Escalation Sigil chains three of them and, from Torment I, ends with Exalted Astaroth.
  • Lair Bosses: Initiate, Greater and Exalted bosses fought at Torment I or higher, whose Hoards open with boss keys (Blizzard, Apr 21, 2025). See Bosses.
  • The Kurast Undercity: Vessel of Hatred's multistage time-attack dungeon, where Attunement raises loot quality and Tributes aim the rewards (Blizzard, Aug 21, 2024).
  • Whispers of the Dead ride along with any War Plans activity instead of being a node of their own; they pay Grim Favors, and 10 Grim Favors buy a cache at the Tree of Whispers.

Outside War Plans

World Bosses such as Ashava, Avarice and Wandering Death appear on a timer, every 3.5 hours since patch 1.2.0 (Oct 17, 2023), and Azmodan joined them for good in Season 11. Legion Events run every 25 minutes since patch 1.1.1. The pinnacle bosses are the Echo of Lilith from the base game and the Echo of Mephisto from Lord of Hatred, a three-stage fight that has dropped a guaranteed Mythic since Season of Hell's Legacy. Vessel of Hatred's Dark Citadel is a co-op raid for two or more players with three Wings and a final boss, and the Fields of Hatred are the base game's PvP zones.

Echoing Hatred

Echoing Hatred is Lord of Hatred's endless test. Offer a rare Trace of Echoes to the Sightless Eye in Temis and you face waves of randomized monsters, several bosses at once, that grow harder until you fall; the longer you last, the better the loot (Blizzard, Feb 11, 2026). IGN's reviewer calls it "effectively a horde mode" and notes that you need a new rare drop for every run. Patch 3.1.0 capped it at 150 waves and raised the drop rate of its keys.

Torment and the power climb

The endgame is a climb through Difficulty and Torment: Lord of Hatred raised Torment from 4 levels to 12, which IGN's reviewer points to in this clip as "plenty of runway". Higher Torment means more gold and experience, better drops and, at the top, the biggest caches: patch 3.2.1 made a Whisper Gold Cache at Torment XII worth about 100 million gold, up from about 35 million. The climb runs through the Pit's tiers, Paragon boards and their Glyphs (leveled in the Pit up to level 100), Tempering and Masterworking at the Blacksmith, the Horadric Cube and Talisman Charms (Crafting), and finally Mythic Uniques, which since Season 14 can be made from any Unique.

Seasonal activities

Every season adds activities of its own on the Seasonal Realm. In Season of Hell's Legacy they are Waking Nightmares, which Blizzard's designers describe in this clip as recreations of key moments from earlier Diablo games built in Diablo 4's style; the largest replay as Capstone dungeons and, at Torment 10 and up, as pinnacle Capstones. The season's Splinters of Evil also reshape War Plans: Diablo's changes Helltide and Infernal Hordes, Baal's the Undercity and Lair Bosses, Mephisto's the Pit and Nightmare Dungeons. See Seasons for every season.

Capstone dungeons are the gates of Season Rank, the seasonal ladder since Season 11: the Season of Divine Intervention trailer shows "Conquer Capstone Dungeons" and "to ascend seasonal ranks" on screen here. Season of Hell's Legacy has nine ranks and 125 objectives, worth up to 14 Skill Points and 42 Paragon points across your seasonal characters. The Artificer's Tower, a timed run up randomized floors with leaderboards, is Seasonal Realm only too.

How the endgame changed

  • Launch (Jun 2023): four World Tiers; Helltides opened in World Tier III, Nightmare Dungeons leveled Glyphs, and Paragon began at level 50. Blizzard admitted after Season 1 that Nightmare Dungeons were "way too difficult".
  • Season 4: Loot Reborn (May 14, 2024): the itemization overhaul, Tempering, Masterworking, the Pit and "Helltide Reborn" (Blizzard).
  • Season of the Infernal Hordes (Aug 6, 2024): the wave mode, kept on both realms.
  • Vessel of Hatred and patch 2.0 (Oct 2024): World Tiers replaced by Normal, Hard, Expert, Penitent and Torment I to IV, unlocked through Pit tiers; level cap 60; Glyph upgrades moved to the Pit; the Kurast Undercity and Dark Citadel (Blizzard, Aug 29, 2024).
  • Season 8 (Apr 29, 2025): Lair Bosses. Season 9 (Jul 1, 2025): Escalating Nightmares. Season 11 (Dec 11, 2025): Season Rank and Capstone dungeons.
  • Lord of Hatred (Apr 27, 2026): War Plans, Echoing Hatred, Temis, level 70, Torment I to XII and a "Pit Overhaul" for everyone (Blizzard).
  • Season 14 (Jun 30, 2026): party-synced War Plans boards, the Tower out of Beta, Solo Self Found. Season 15 (Sep 15, 2026): Shared War Plans.

Gone for good: World Tiers, Sacred items and the Gauntlet, Season 3's weekly leaderboard dungeon, which Icy Veins reported was switched off in Season 6.

What comes next

Blizzard's stated next step is more War Plans: at BlizzCon 2026 its designers named "playlist customization, supporting even more seasonal variety, and building out even more War Plans endgame" as priorities, and the panel recap repeats it (Blizzard, Sep 13, 2026). Blizzard has not announced Season 16's activities or date, as of Oct 21, 2026 (Season 16).

Frequently asked questions

What should I do after the Diablo 4 campaign? Go to Temis and start a War Plan at the Command Table if you own Lord of Hatred; it chains the Pit, Infernal Hordes, Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, Lair Bosses and the Kurast Undercity and pays out at the War Chest. Without the expansion, run those activities directly and push Pit tiers to raise your Torment level.

Do I need Lord of Hatred for the Diablo 4 endgame? No for most of it: the Pit, Infernal Hordes, Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, Lair Bosses and all twelve Torment levels are free updates for every Diablo 4 owner. War Plans, Echoing Hatred, the Horadric Cube and the Talisman need Lord of Hatred, which includes Vessel of Hatred.

What is the hardest activity in Diablo 4? The hardest content in Diablo 4 is played at Torment XII: high Pit tiers, Echoing Hatred, whose waves keep growing until you fall (up to a cap of 150), and in Season of Hell's Legacy the pinnacle Capstone dungeons at Torment 10 and above.

What are the Diablo 4 endgame activities? Diablo 4's endgame activities are War Plans, the Pit, Infernal Hordes, Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons and Escalating Nightmares, Lair Bosses, the Kurast Undercity, Echoing Hatred, world bosses, Whispers of the Dead, Legion Events, the Dark Citadel and the Fields of Hatred, plus the Artificer's Tower and each season's activities on the Seasonal Realm.

What level does the Diablo 4 endgame start? Diablo 4's level cap has been 70 since Apr 27, 2026, and the endgame opens properly once the campaign is done; Torment I needs a cleared Pit tier, and Destructoid reported that the first one is Pit Tier 10.

Is Diablo 4's endgame the same on the Seasonal and Eternal Realms? Mostly: War Plans, the Pit, Infernal Hordes, Helltides and Nightmare Dungeons are on both Diablo 4 realms, while Season Rank, the Artificer's Tower and Leaderboards and each season's mechanic are Seasonal Realm only.
